Our Philosophy

Our Centre Philosophy

Mapusaga Aoga Amata is a total immersion Samoan entity operated on the grounds of the Congregational Christian Church of Samoa in Woolston, Christchurch. Our centre honours the church’s Christian values and beliefs and we are committed to providing high quality early childhood education in an environment that reflects the spiritual and cultural beliefs of Samoan people. The centre is run by a management committee made up from selected members from the congregational church and community representatives.

We see our teaching role as advocates for all children (representing and being a voice for tamaiti). We aim to facilitate and enrich children’s learning in partnership with parents, families and community. We are dedicated to ensure that parent’s involvement is encouraged especially in decision making and when seeking goals and aspirations for their children. Our curriculum programme is guided by Te Whariki (Early Childhood Curriculum) and the Fale Tele Model. As educators we respect and value our Tangata Whenua and we also recognise the importance of having a strong commitment to the bi-cultural heritage of Aotearoa.

The Mapusaga Aoga Amata employs teachers that believe in our philosophy and we have a commitment to providing them with on-going professional and personal development, which ensures that quality practice is enhanced and that our teaching team have shared understandings and are reflective of current theories of learning and development.
